When I was a younger person, straight out of school, my first job was as a trainee travel agent. This was extremely exciting and I did indeed train well and learnt a tremendous amount – how to work my way around the British Railway guide was an incredible achievement – I had to learn quickly from the only colleague with the required knowledge, who was seriously ill and very likely to take her knowledge with her. Another task was to learn how to use Iata air travel, particularly for lengthy and complicated business trips. Nowadays, there are some amazing e-learning courses for the budding travel agent. Online education opportunities are aplenty and it gives all the travelling public confidence that those behind the desk do know a thing or two about our needs when abroad! Career focused training and information learning is critical these days when so many things happen across the globe.
